15 lb Box of Scrap Slate

Fifteen pounds of real quarry scrap, hand-gathered by us from the rubble piles of our quarry in Maryland's Peach Bottom slate country along the Susquehanna. Welsh quarrymen worked this stone in the 1800s, and the hand-split blue-black slate they left behind, with its warm rust tones, is ready for a second life.

• 15+ pounds of mixed scrap slate pieces, mostly 2–8 inches, in random shapes
• Choose your thickness: Thin (1/4–1/2 in), Medium (1/2–1 in) or Thick (1–2 in). Thicker means fewer, chunkier pieces at the same weight
• Gathered, sorted by thickness and packed by us

Great for aquarium and terrarium scapes, reptile enclosures, craft projects, potted-plant topping, and slate mulch.

Why scrap costs less: these boxes are mixed rubble straight from our piles, with random sizes, odd shapes, broken edges and offcuts. That makes them just right for mulch, aquariums, terrariums, crafts and fill. All natural, never coated or dyed. Rinse before use, since quarry stone is dusty. Rubble edges are natural and can be sharp, so sand any edge a pet or little hands will touch.
